The Gabinetto
Fisico, a teaching museum, was set up by royal decree
in 1812 and was dependent on the existing Chair in experimental
physics. It was situated in a few rooms adjoining the
Chemistry Theatre and apothecary of the Jesuit church
of the Collegio Massimo, between the buildings in Via
Mezzocannone and Via Palladino, which incorporated the
Saviour’s Cloister and the church itself. This came
about after the dissolution of the Jesuit order, when
the building passed to the university in 1776. |
